After reading a story Ms. Subject wrote for an event I attended I decided I needed to see more of her work, I am glad I did. She suggested I start with Never Gonna Say Goodbye (The Underground Book 2) as I prefer female leads. While it is the second in the series it was a fine stand alone book.Set in a Corporate Machine future Earth, it is reminiscent of a Hollywood sci fi movie, but only for the setting. This story focuses on the daughter of the ruling class and her forbidden lover. These two strong, brave women fight against the binds of ignorance, prejudiced, family and the Company in pursuit of freedom. This story is fast paced and full of action and though the story ended in a perfect place, it is wonderful that the tale will continue. I will be reading books one and three soon!

A short, sexy, and exciting read, Never Gonna Desert You combines f/f romance and science fiction. Brook and Melina's love for each other is forbidden by Planet Core, but they will do anything and everything to be together, and it may cost them their lives.
Even with it's short length, I found myself very invested in this story and he characters. The political intrigue of a corrupt dystopian society provides the backdrop for the spicy romance between the two women. Sizzling, stolen moments between the couple mix with scenes where they must run and fight for survival and a nearly impossible love. The plot has some twists and turns and quite a few surprises.
A fun, quick read for romance, sci-fi, or dystopian fans alike, Never Gonna Desert You has the right mix of world-buliding and spicy romance. Though Brook and Melina's story reaches a satisfying conclusion, the intrigue and action of The Underground is just beginning I'm eagerly anticipating the continuation of this series.

Into this futuristic world comes numerous secrets that an important man is willing to have others killed to keep hidden. His vileness further knows no bounds as he's set his daughter Brook aside since the day her mother was killed. His time is mostly spent trying to get rid of those in the Underground who favor rebellion and who he says did the killing. He has an agenda to get rich through deception and won't let sentimentality get in his way.
Brook's burgeoning relationship with Melina could get both of them killed as the laws of Planet Core frown upon same-sex relationships. Their mutual happiness has them ignoring the law but again lets Brook's father use their secret, and the threat of their separation, to get them to do his bidding. It soon becomes apparent that the lies are bigger than once thought and the secrets more far sweeping than we're led to believe as whole planets and races are in jeopardy.
Brook and Melina both had hardships growing up and are familiar with loneliness. Brook tried to find affection elsewhere but was betrayed when a chance encounter introduces her to Melina. From there their relationship turns hot and heavy with each of them willing to cheat and die to keep the other safe. Their sensual interludes are HOT and nicely paced alongside intriguing sci-fi elements.
Much in this story relies on what has happened before and this story is just one segment in a much bigger picture. This book sets up far reaching events that will greatly affect the next installment in this series and brought to light many secrets that brought an intriguing twist to the overall storyline. The females in this story are strong-willed and willing to put themselves on the line in the name of love and shows why there needs to be more f/f-centric stories.

Brooke returns home after a long day at work, expecting her boyfriend to propose. Instead, she discovers that what he meant by taking "the next step" was a ménage with a female coworker. After kicking them both out, Melina returns to explain that she only agreed to the ménage because she is attracted to Brook. Soon the pair are become friends and much more.
Brook's father is a bigwig at Planet Core, the corporation that controls the city and everyone in it. When he threatens Melina with the secret knowledge of her illegal relationship with Brook, he forces her on mission after mission and uses her to do his dirty work. Unfortunately, that includes sleeping with coworkers to get them removed from research teams.
The first part of the novella is actually a prequel of sorts to the first book in the series, Never Gonna Give You Up. In the first book, we find Melina, a mission commander of an off-world exploration, already three years into her work that took her away from Brook. Soon the novella fast-forwards three years and takes place immediately after the conclusion of the first story.
Although the dialogue reads pretty simply, the premise behind the story is exciting. Corporate coverup and domination. This story reads MUCH better than the first in the series, and one could enjoy it as a stand alone. However, I am glad that Never Gonna Desert You tied the two stories together, bringing back Calla and Erik from the first book and explaining the "behind the scenes."
The focus of the story is the romance between Brook and Melina, which was shared successfully. The pair had to overcome many obstacles, including Brook's diabolical father. Since this was a novella, the author didn't have a lot of room to delve deeply into their issues, but she handled the adversity directly and didn't leave any matters off to the side. Brook and Melina confronted their demons, and this helped create more enjoyable characters.
The coverups and conspiracies hinted around in the first book were brought forward directly in Never Gonna Desert You. We learn more about the Underground and its mission. We find out what Planet Core is really up to. This aspect of the story and series is interesting and definitely NOT over. Planet Core - or at least its leaders - is an evil force that the Underground must take on in order for there to be peace and happiness. I look forward to Brook confronting her father and the Underground taking on Planet Core in future installments.
